A discussion was held regarding the Green Justice meeting in Columbia City held with the Sierra Club. A conclusion was that the effort along the line of this group needed more coherent focus, especially regarding actions; though it was good to hear of the need of the minority community regarding “green” efforts. Perhaps majority folks need a little bit more awareness of how to communicate in minority groups. Perhaps we might sponsor Riki Ott as a speaker regarding climate actions for our fund raiser upcoming.
Another area of discussion was about how to tally the actions taken by group members over the previous month. Mike suggested a couple of categories to limit how many areas are placed on the tally.
Categories: Fossil Fuels Pacific NW Corridor; Other PNW Actions: National and Global Other. We need a good elevator speech regarding the categories that we take action on.
A lesson was presented by Mary on tools available to facilitate actions by members.
A final discussion centered on the idea presented by Mike of creating a “High Tide” sticker to be placed around the Puget Sound at future high tide marks that are of concern. Where to place stickers, what should they look like, how much information should be on them were topics discussed. A stronger possible prototype is to be presented at a later meeting.
The group received a hand out regarding sending a letter to Olivia Romano of the US Army Corp of Engineers, Seattle District Regulatory Branch, P.O.Box 3755, Seattle, WA 98124-3755; Comments should include permit application # NWS-1992-435, your name address and phone #. This letter would be regarding a draft EIS about the BP Cherry Point dock North Wing expansion.
