Around 700 environmental activists gathered at the Vancouver Landing along the Columbia River in Vancouver, Washingtion on July 27th, 2013. It was part of a mass mobilization campaign taking place across the US to protest fossil fuel dependency and its devastating impact on global climate.
“Summer Heat” organizer Mia Reback described the event as “…a symbolic blockade against fossil fuels. We’re taking astand against the 15 proposed (export) terminals. Ultimately these projects will facilitate the burning of over three times the amount of oil of the Keyston XL Pipeline.”
After a series of presentations and workshops, around 150 kayakers paddled into the Columbia River, while around 500 demonstrators gathered on the bridge connecting Vancouver, WA to Portland OR. View photos of the event, or watch the video review (below).
