Seattle Mayor McGinn Says NO to Coal Trains

McGinn Debunks Jobs vs Environment Myths

On February 17th, 2013, Seattle Mayor McGinn addressed the Sierra Club and Power Past Coal sponsored demonstration at Golden Gardens Park. The park is adjacent to train tracks where trains bearing coal from Wyoming and Montana make their way to energy markets in China. McGuinn makes the point that increased train traffic creates congestion, destroy the shellfish industry (acid rain from coal burning), and interfere withSeattle businesses. McGinn has also divested Seattle from petrochemical investments and buying energy created by the Centralia coal power plant. He is promoting green jobs and green energy sources. Over 500 Seattle area environmental activists participated in the event at Golden Gardens, in coordination with the demonstrations in Washington DC opposing the Keystone XL pipeline project.
