STATE REPRESENTATIVES CALLING FOR COMPREHENSIVE STATEWIDE IMPACT STUDY OF COAL EXPORTATION
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 6th, 2012
For more information contact:
What: Multiple state legislators will be holding a press conference asking Governor Gregoire to establish a multi-agency task force to identity the statewide economic, transportation, and environmental impacts of a proposed coal terminal near Bellingham, as well as other coal terminals in the state and region. It is critical that the EIS and state government look beyond the terminal’s potential effects on the immediate area, and include the projects’ impacts on the state as a whole, since the trains would pass through Spokane, Vancouver, and much of Puget Sound, including downtown Seattle.
At the same press conference Climate Solutions will be releasing a study that details the depreciation of real estate prices due to increased coal train traffic, one such metric that the legislators are urging to be considered in a statewide analysis.
Who: Rep. Reuven Carlyle (36th District – Seattle), Rep. Kristine Lytton (40th District – Anacortes), Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon (34th District – Seattle), Rep. Jeff Morris (40th District – Mount Vernon), Ross Macfarlane, Climate Solutions Senior Advisor, Business Partnerships, Liz Talley, Real Estate Agent
When: Wednesday, November 7th at 2PM
Where: Near the rail intersection by Pier 70, at the intersection of Broad St. and Alaskan Way
